Preface: I missed a week! I am ashamed. But lets be honest, I am not really that ashamed.

So goodbye to the preface.

Hello another edition in the Edwards Weekly.

Mom & Dad

HAPPY 25th birthday dad! Actually. Thats weird. AHEM! How about 55! Phew, that makes everything a little less weird. Anyway, Dad's birthday was fun! We watched the BYU game and ate some wonderful food (Fish Tacos and BBQ Salad!)

We also had PIE and CAKE

Dad got 2 games for his birthday. Which was a little odd considering dad doesn't like games. But hey by the time you hit 55 you have had enough birthdays to get everything you have ever wanted, right? :)! We played some games and talked a while and stayed way to late talking--surprise, surprise!

Dads birthday made me think a lot about him--imagine that! :)! Dad, thank you. From all of us, thank you. You have been the rock in our family. The sacrifices you made for us resulted in all of us reaching our own dreams! Thanks for your listening ear, your encouraging words, your interest in our lives, your belief in us, your desire to teach us correct principle, your love, your optimism, your faithfulness.

We love you dad! And we will never know all the sacrifices you have made for us, but we will also never stop reaping the blessings! We will be blessed forever because of the life you have lived! Thank you and Happy birthday!

Nate found a big person! "AHH!!! OH NO!!! They spotted me. What should I do? They are going to wipe my face! I hate that!"

Sad! But Happy as the same time! There are going to be hundreds of people that have better lives because of the sacrifices that Johnny, Marie and their children make!

John says he does really enjoy what he is doing. The pictures were really neat to see! John in all his attire. *Sniff Sniff* He is growing up so fast! :)
Dear Johnny: I am so sorry that I didn't call you and wish you a Very Happy Birthday! But I want to speak from me and from the rest as the family as well for just one moment.

Thank you for being the best older brother any sibling could ever ask for. Thank you for being the perfect child any parent could ask for. Thank you for making the bar ridiculously too high for any of us average siblings to reach! I assure you, we do enjoy jumping and missing the bar by tens and hundreds of feet. :)!

But really, you set a standard for the rest of the family and all of us look up to you! We all think the world of you! We are all super proud of our oldest practically perfect brother! We all brag about you! We all love you and your perfect little family! We all pray for you and Marie and Josh and Nate!

Gary

Gary had a really good break from the hospital this week. 4 days! Gary has become Landon's mentor for getting into med school. He actually made a "full-proof" plan of how to get into med school! So if Landon gets in do I attribute his success to Gary or Landon? And if Landon doesn't get in... Do I attribute his failure to Gary or Landon? Hmmmm... "This is a very interesting situation!"

Gary is dating, and sleeping, and working, and studying, and dating some more! He should be hearing from Utah pretty soon. You would think he would be hearing from Utah pretty soon considering he did interview there in September! Just saying!

Nate

I have decided to post a conversation between nate and I this week!

Here it is,

Rebecca: Hey! Is there anything I can say about what you are doing at work?

Nathan: Nooooo! That would be a very bad idea

Rebecca: well good to know :) what can I say about your life then?

Nathan: you can say I am working on a super secretive project if you want just NO details.

Rebecca: okie okie

Nathan: i have not had a good nights sleep in two weeks... thats something new :)

Rebecca: sad :( what else classes?

Nathan: i am behind in school.. hehe! i have put in 120 hours of work so far this month.

Rebecca: the month of march? Gross!

Nathan: yes march... thats why i am behind in school.

Rebecca: well quit work

"When the going gets tough... QUIT!!!!" Thats my new moto :)! Haha, but it looks like nate is working hard and that he is trusted by a lot of people! It has been fun, exciting, pathetic, hopeful, and depressing (in that order) watching the BYU games lately with Nate and Gary!!! I guess we will see how this week goes!

Landon & Becca

So two weeks ago Landon and I had a brilliant idea. Chinese Delivery.

Well all I have to say is stomach ache!

The next date night we decided to make up for it! First I went shopping at walmart! A long 3 hours and a couple dollars over budget! Here you can see that we realy waited til the last minute to get food for the month of march!!!

After I finished unpacking we made homemade cafe rio salads! They were so good!!! Landon also made some yummy bean dip! Judge him for the apron :)! Do it!

Tonight I made butternut squash soup! I was hoping, maybe even praying that it would taste a little something like the tree room!

Cross your fingers!!!!

Scotty!

I don't know if we got an email from scotty today! Maybe mom just forgot to send them out! However I was informed tonight--from my wonderful husband--that scotty has emailed him 2 times in a row. A personal email! HA! Who does he think he is! Landon is saying scott is just asking him spanish questions, I don't buy it! :)

And the winner is HOOPLA!

Mom & Dad:
Mom and dad were officailly made Ma & Pa for the Trek. Which means they will be pushing &pulling & falling & hurting :(! But they are excited and will do a great job! Dad's work is going good. He says it is really busy with lots of pressure, but he loves it. Interesting Fact, Dad says that he is only 1 of 5 employees in his department at the church. The rest of the people that work their are volunteers! Members giving their talents and time to the church!
What talents do we have that we could give to the church? Think about that.

Johnny & Marie:

YAY!!!! They are going on a trip!

They deserve a trip. The need a trip. They are a trip...in! Get it? Tripin? hehe. They are so excited! And rightfully so. They have also gotten into P90X. Oh the work out videos. I know they are great, but I still think they are a little funny... So great but funny. I have not done a P90X, but Landon & I have done a couple of P90's.

P90 is to P90X as Tape Cassette is to I-Pod.

Get it?

They also had one of their really good friends, from medical school, come and visit. Her name is Kadia and Josh & Nate had a blast with her.

The biggest news of the week! The month! the YEAR!!! (Well maybe besides gar getting in to med school)!! Is that Josh is finally starting to sleep! YAAAAHOOOOOOO!!!! Marie can finally get some sleep herself!!!YAHOO even more! These are some cute pictures from her post--that you should read http://johnmariejoshua.blogspot.com/--but just think of this post as a sneak preview to her post!

One last thing for Johnny and Marie. Look how cute this litte giraffe is. Marie made it one of the nights johnny was at the hospital. SOOO cute!

Gary

Gary went on a couple of dates this weekend! YAY dates!!! We actually got to go with him on one of them. No we weren't his dates, he did find his own. We went to get dessert and almost got a lady fired. For more details, ask Landon--it was his fault :)!!

Nate

Well Nate has finished all of his homework until next next Saturday. But don't worry he still has about 100 hours of work the next couple of weeks! I wonder what is keeping him so busy ;)!

Nate also had a really really neat experience with his visiting teachee's. He was able to give one of them a blessing last Monday. That girl then got a very immediate answer to her blessing. I don't know how much I should share, but you are welcome to ask Nate for more details! It is an awesome story.

Becca & Landon

Well we have a new obsession.

Oh my goodness! It is SOOO good. When I say obsession, we have only had it 2 times in the last week and 3 times in our whole lives :)! But I have declared a new obsession. It is pretty cheap if you share too. $5.00 for a medium and you walk away with the perfect feeling!!!! Mmmmmm

Seriously you all should go out and get a frozen yogurt this week :)! Then let me know what you thought of it once you did! Our next frozen yogurt visit is the place that Nate has gone. He says you get all the yogurt and toppings you want and then depending on how much it weighs, that is how much it costs! YEAH!

New email address; scott.edwards@myldsmail.net!!! Email him today :)! He is doing so well. Lets all continue to pray for him. He had 4 more baptisms this week. What....? Another 4? Amazing? Yes amazing! He is working so hard! Also pray that the people he teaches will be moved by the spirit!

Hoopla Vs. Cranium

Welp, mom and I officially lost for the 8th time in a row to Gary & Landon in cranium. I was SO mad! We were ahead the whole game. When I say ahead, I mean they were stuck on the first leg when we were at the last! But don't worry they roller a BAZILLION PURPLES to win the game. BLAH! BLAH BLAH BLAH!

But, Mom, Landon, Gary, Me & Nate played Hoopla for another hour and a half. That was fun because we were playing against the clock! Maybe we should try to play that over skype. Johnny? Marie? Any takers? :)

Well I love you all! Sorry for the late post this week, I had a book report due on Tuesday and I hadn't started the 400 page book until Monday. Oops. Don't worry its turned in ready to get a big old 'A' put on it :)!

Cranium! BLAH! Feburary 15th-22st

So novel idea. Today, I am just going to “blog”. No google pictures, not funny/dumb jokes, none of that. Just blog. If we had some real pictures I might put those up, but alas… we don’t take pictures in our family—minus Marie. (Maybe you can send me a few that you took during the week and I can put them up!)

Mom & Dad:

I forgot to mention this in previous posts, but mom & dad were called to help with the trek. Their role is to take video and pictures of their group so at the end of the trek, a memorable movie can be made. How dad is going to walk on the 3 day trek, I don’t know, but of course he would have faith and believe that there could be a miracle!

I asked mom is there was anything to report and she said, "NO! Just as boring as ever. Nothing new!" So that is what I am going to say... Mom & Dad are boring and not new!

Johnny & Marie:

I feel bad because everyone already knows about their week. John & Marie, maybe you should send me one thing you did that wasn’t a part of your email so everyone could be surprised! YAY! Surprises!!!

It sounds like they had fun making a snow fort and that they had a wonderful stake conference with Elder Christofferson. John, we are all glad you had the weekend off and we are glad you got to spend it with Marie and your boys.

Gary:

Gary traveled to the good old Wisconsin for an interview. He said that if he was accepted into that school it would be a hard choice between that and Chicago. I’ll be honest, I always forget that name of the schools he interviews at! Wisconsin State? Hehe. Gary wasn’t feeling well during the interview so he didn’t think it went so well… however, I am sure it did.

Gary and I went to 10 different restaurants this week. He ended up with 1 on the spot interview, 7 applications, 1 'not hiring' and 1 walk out. He decided he didn't want to work at California Pizza Kitchen. Gar is looking for an apartment. Not that he doesn’t like mom & dad, he just wants to get back into a singles ward. Right? Right!

Nate:

Nate is nate and when I ask him if there was anything he did that was special this week he says, “um…………………………………….. nope : )!” Yes he did put a smiley face, and yes we did have the conversation over g-chat. Blessed g-chat.

Nate went on a date Saturday night. He said he had fun. They went to the Art City Trolley & then went to get yogurt. Not like Yoplait yogurt, but frozen yogurt.

Landon & Becca:

I feel bad because I obviously know the most about us. But lets be honest, there are just so many things to say about us—basically we are amazing. Hehe, just kidding.

Landon got a 98% on his first Chem 106 test. I was proud. I made homemade chicken cordon bleu and it was soooo tastey. MMMM…. One of my closest friends came over Saturday night at 11:00pm and we all stayed up talking til 4:00 in the morning. Landon is staying busy in his calling, he is the ward employment specialist. He had four different people come up to him in church asking for help. And that was just yesterday.

Scotty:

He seems so happy. Pray for the family that he is talking with. A family of 7? Maybe 8? A whole family converted to the church would be amazing! They could make a huge difference in the world.

All:

Gary & Landon beat mom and I in cranium for the 5^th & 6^th time yesterday. BLAH! I got mad and threw a card. I know, I know, I shall repent! But I don’t want to talk about it anymore!

Anyway, just a reminder—on behalf of Gary—attend the temple this month. Also, be thinking about family history and people you could help!

Yes! I know! They got Landon a new car for his birthday :)! How nice of them :)! Just kidding. They did buy this car. This exact car.

Johnny & Marie

Welp. It sounds like they had a long week. But it is always good to have those llllllooooonnnnnnggggggg weeks over. Its over :).

John says he likes operating on the neck. He is a crazy one :)

Gary

MMMMMM.... He is working and moving and looking and soon finding. When I say finding I mean a lot of things. Finding new work, new apartment, new ward, new girl :).

Nate

MMMMMM.... He is working and schooling and working so more. Nate has to work 78 hours in the next 2 weeks. He also has school and his wonderful calling... which he loves. :). He is very busy!

Landon & Becca

It was Landon's happy birthday week. Everyone knows how I like to prolong birthdays, so I did just that for Landon.

It started on Thursday with his some of his favorite meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner;

Then Lace brought over dessert.

Then I gave him a little card that said, "I talked to your boss, no work tomorrow night. Happy Tepanyaki."

Landon's parents flew in to surprise him for his birthday. They came up to my office first. (John & Marie, this is what my office looks like., can you see the couch in the background? I think its kind of cute!)

Mama & Papa Woolf dropped me off at our apartment and went to reserve seats at Tepanyaki. Landon had no idea they were here :). (So he says). This was the rest of our weekend. Well some of it.

We went to Leap Year. It was cute. But the speakers weren't working very well so we only heard half of it & when the movie was over we were seriously the only on in the theater. The workers had closed up and left. Kind of humorous.

Then we went to the BYU game & Bowling. Landon bowled a 208. Don't judge my score. I did have 3 strikes. Its just that I only have 11 points total when it was round 4. I thought I did pretty well making up for it :)

Anyway Landon's birthday ended at mom & dads house Sunday night. Mom made him one of his favorites, Taco Salad and chocolate cake. We played 4 games of cranium and for Landon's birthday Mom & I let him and Gary win all 4 times :)!

Sorry spotlight on us. We just had an unusually mentionable week.

Well we aren't sure how he is doing since mom forgot to forward his email on :)! I guess we wait.

THE SAINTS WIN!!!

Well, I know that everyone wanted the Colts to win. I don't think I did, but I didn't really care. I picked this picture because I thought it was cute and shows family and football--together. YAY! Cute little boy.

They celebrated their 30th anniversary this week! YAY!!!! They rented a movie that they didn't end up watching because it got bad reviews and then they went to PF CHANGS! Mm... Here is dads favorite dish,

Mom is working hard to get the house organized. Right now it is in disarray, but soon it will look like everything in her house... P-E-R-F-E-C-T. Mom also got a new electric piano. It is pretty amazing!

Johnny & Marie,

Well it looks like they are taking all of the snow from us. They had fun playing in the snow this weekend.

In their email John mentioned they made a plan. A baby plan if you will. Anyone want to guess when the next grand baby is coming :)?!?!

Gary

YAY!! Gary moved back to Provo!

His stuff wasn't quite as organized as the picture above, but we don't mind--well except mom--but we are all still glad he is here and close!!! Hehe.

Nate

Well Nate got sick and tired of his bed at his apartment,

...so he went and purchased a new one. He would! Mmmmm comfy bed!

Other then that. Nates good! He is really busy and is working hard!

Landon & Becca

Well we had a busy busy week. Together we worked 40 hours, had 32 hours of classes, about 50 hours of home work, 24 hours of Rape Crisis Training, 15 hours of BYUSA, 3 tests, 1 should be test, 1 quiz, 4 papers, 1 enrichment meeting, 1 bailed retreat and nothing to show for it :)!!! Haha!

Just kidding--well besides we don't know our test scores or paper scores! However we are excited for this week because without the training every night for 4 hours, we feel like we have GOBS of time!

YAY!

Well, we all know how Scott is doing, but I hope everyone has written their testimonies. If you haven't just email Landon your testimony and then he will translate it.

Good Week for the Edwards Family :)!

The King & Queen (aka Mom & Dad):
Happy 30th Wedding Anniversary... TODAY!!! Can you believe it? Mom & Dad have been married 30 years. None of us have even been alive for that long (which is probably a good thing). Anyway, if you get a chance, wish them a Happy Anniversary

Johnny & Marie:
Johny started Neurosurgey Last week. In his own words he "only has 5 night shifts a month now." ONLY?!? I bet Marie doesn't feel like its 'only' five nights :)! I don't know much about brain surgery, but I googled it and found these two comics. Maybe they are funny... maybe they are not... laugh anyway!

Marie & Johnny had a very romantic date this week. All they ever wanted and more.

Hehe :)! I know im funny!

Gary:

YAY! Another acceptance letter.... or email? These days people might start accepting students through brain waves. Johnny can you work on that? Gary has now been accepted into two med schools now. Michigan and Illinois in Chicago.

Gary and I also found this awesome blog. There has only been one post, but don't worry I am a followera nd yes I am the only follower (I hope I make that guy happy:).) The blog is a hoot! I never say hoot... thats awkward. The blog is 100datestilifindher.blogspot.com. Visit it, its fun.

Other then that, Gary seems great! He is currently in Saint Louis for an interview. Infact, I believe he is talking to the interviewee right now... it is going something like this, "Why Med School?" "Because...." Sorry lost the brain wave.

Nate:

Nate is currently working and going to school :)! Yay school. I am a little jealous of his job. He has to walk all the way from his bed to his couch turn on the computer and leave his sweats on to get the job done. Here are a couple of jokes... again I don't know if they are funny or not, but alas... I put them anyway.

Becca & Landon:

Landon is doing the Rape Crisis Training right now so he is really busy, but he will finish it this week. I don't have anything to say about myself. And life is good for us :)! We had a BLAST saturday night with Gary & Nate. This is how the night went.

A couple of months ago we had an Edwards Family Council. Very officail I promise--involved skype and everything :)! Dad & Mom assigned each member of the family something to do that would Create a Celestial Family, with “No empty chairs in Heaven.”

Here were the assignments

Mom & Dad: Hold a monthy family FHE
Johnny & Marie: Preparedness
Gary: Temple Work
Nathan: Family Reunion
Rebecca & Landon: Family History
Scotty: Missionary Work

Since everyone else knows there specific assignment front & back, Landon & I will explain how we are doing ours!

Each monday morning I will update the blog with events that happened during the week. Landon & I will get this information by phone, email text, etc. If you want anything specific to go on the blog you will have to let us know. If you don't care, we will just decide.

Landon & I will also write in a online journal each month about the events that have gone on in the family as well as the events that have gone on in the world. At the end of each December we will print a book out for each household.

If any of you want to utilize this blog with your own assignment, just let us know. For example, we can put the monthly prepardness item up or the goal for temple attendance up.

I hope this makes since! We will start next monday :)

Life is Good

Monday June 2nd-7th; Can you say Lake Powell? "LAKE POWELL!" Thank you! So we went to Lake Powell Last week; not the best L.P. trip, but you just can't have a bad one. Here is a picture of our favorite location at Lake Powell. Amazing huh!

This year we decided not to go to our regular 'Gun Site' location. Instead we parked about 5 minutes away from the marina. This probably was a tender mercy considering Dad had to go to St. George for a route canal on wednesday and Mom threw out her back and had to be taken off the lake on a stretcher. It is a good thing we didn't have a 1 hour boat ride to the dock. Poor Mom and Dad! Nevertheless the trip was fun; relaxation, water, sun, food, sleep and family. What more could you want.

June 9th; Happy Birthday Donald Duck. So yesterday was Donalds birthday, also known as Nathan James Edwards. Ask me if we celebrated..... YES WE DID :)!!! Cake, Ice Cream, Candy, and singing... what more could a duck want :)? Sadly, Daisy wasn't able to make it. But besides her we had a good turn out to the party. Look how happy Donald looks. He was surprised.

In my life I always live by themes. Sometimes it is the theme of faith, sometimes it is the theme of love, sometimes forgiveness, joy, honestly, and so on. What happens is, I find a quote, or a scripture, or talk that really connects to me and then for the next 2 months it is my beacon. Forgive me if I have already shared this with some of you, but I want to share it again.

My theme lately is a mixture between trust in the Lord, endure and hope. I just wanted to share a few verses in Ether with you. I am sure all of you have picked this out before, but up until recently I had not.

In Ether 6:5 it says, “And it came to pass that the Lord God caused that there should be a ^afurious wind blow upon the face of the waters, ^btowards the promised land; and thus they were tossed upon the waves of the sea before the wind.” Now lets think about this for a second, apply it to us. What could the promised land be like? Well, the celestial kingdom or even our Heavenly Father. With that being said then this verse is saying, “the Lord caused that there should be trials, hardships, and struggles in life to help you to get to the celestial kingdom.” What a blessing it is that he gives us those trials. If you think about it, had the Lord not caused the winds to blow then the people of Jared would still be sitting on the shore trying to make it to the promised land.

Then in Ether 6:8 it says, “And it came to pass that the wind did never cease to blow towards the promised land while they were upon the waters; and thus they were ^adriven forth before the wind.” It says that the wind did never cease OR our trials, struggles, and hardships will never cease. Which is a great thing. Why would we want them to end? Imagine it the Lord caused the winds to stop during the people of Jared’s journey. The people would be stuck in the middle of the ocean with no direction or idea of where to go. We don’t want the trials to stop.

In Ether 6:9 it says, “And they did ^asing praises unto the Lord; yea, the brother of Jared did sing praises unto the Lord, and he did ^bthank and praise the Lord all the day long; and when the night came, they did not cease to praise the Lord.” So instead of complaining about the trials and hardships they were facing, they rejoiced. They sang praises to the Lord. What a great example. One thing that was pointed out to me is that they didn’t just sing praises by themselves but also with their family and friends. Heavenly Father has blessed us with people all around us. Why not join in song together and thank the Lord for all he has done for us. I believe this will make us stronger

In Ether 6:12 it says, “And they did ^aland upon the shore of the ^bpromised land. And when they had set their feet upon the shores of the promised land they bowed themselves down upon the face of the land, and did humble themselves before the Lord, and did shed tears of joy before the Lord, because of the multitude of his ^ctender mercies over them.” What I learned from this is we must recognize the tender mercies in our life. And maybe realize that the trials, struggles and hardships are a tender mercy in disguise.

And the last thing that I learned was in Ether 6:30 it says “And it came to pass that Orihah did walk humbly before the Lord, and did remember how great things the Lord had done for his father, and also taught his people how great things the Lord had done for their fathers.” The Lord does so much for us. We can never forget that.

So 5 lessons that I learned from this chapter;

1: The Lord gives us trials to get us closer to Him

2: The trials will never stop

3: We must learn to rejoice and give thanks to the Lord for the trials

4: Recognize that trials are a tender mercy

5: Remember all that the Lord has done for you. Walk humbly, have faith and endure. Everything will work out.

Johnny's Testimony

In the October 2006 General Conference, Richard G. Scott compared two types of rock climbing. He said, "There are those who attempt to scale a difficult rock cliff by a method called 'soloing.' They ascend alone, without equipment, companions, or any secure protection. They depend on their own skill and capacity. They do it for the thrill of living on the edge with high risk." He then describes a better method. "When a pair of climbers tackle a difficult ascent, the leader scales a wall, placing anchors a few feet apart. His or her rope is linked to the anchor by a carabiner. Safety is assured by a companion, called the second, stationed in a very solid position. The lead is protected as the second belays, that is, carefully controls how the rope is payed out. In this way the lead is assured protection while ascending. Should there be an inadvertent misstep, the anchor will safely limit the fall. The second not only secures the lead but gives encouragement with comments and signals as they communicate back and forth. Their goal is a safe, exhilarating experience by overcoming a significant challenge. They employ techniques and equipment that are tried and proven. The essential equipment includes a secure harness, a reliable rope, a variety of anchors to be fixed to the rock face, a chalk bag to improve grip, and proper boots or special shoes that a leader can use to grip the surface of the steep wall." Now the lesson: "In real life, the anchors are the laws of God that provide protection under all of the challenges that you will face. The rope and carabiners that secure the rope to the anchors represent obedience to those commandments. When you learn those commandments, continue to practice them, and have a plan to avoid danger, you will have a secure means of obtaining protection against Satan’s temptations. You will develop strength of character that will fortify you against transgression. Should you make a wrong move, there need be no enduring problem because of the belaying or help that is available through your repentance." When I was in Poltava, Ukraine, Elder Callister, a member of the second quorum of the seventy, visited our mission. On Thanksgiving Day in 2000, he addressed my zone in a very special conference. The title of his address was "The Joy of Obedience." Elder Callister articulately impressed upon my mind the safety, joy, peace, and comfort we can find in our lives when we simply do what the Lord has asked us to do. I have reflected on his comments many times since he spoke to us in that intimate setting. I suppose I felt and have since felt like Joseph Smith did when he said, "as my life consisted of activity and unyielding exertions, I made this my rule: When the Lord commands, do it." Brother Bott, a BYU religion professor, once explained how we grow spiritually. He said as we study the scriptures, pray, attend church meetings, and do those things that are pleasing to the Lord, we invite the Spirit into our hearts. We feel no more disposition to do evil and we see things as they really are. There are other times, however, when we must press forward in faith, without such clear spiritual vision or the motivation of the Spirit. In those times, we are stretched spiritually and are able to grow. This is why obedience is so critical. We must do as the Lord commands no matter how we feel, what temptations beset us, or what situation we are in. At the end of General Conference I have head President Hinckley say, "It is all over except the work." It is easy to follow the prophets and apostles while you are listening to them and the spirit is present. Strength of character can be defined by how consistent we are in sticking to our morals, no matter the situation. Elder Maxwell has said, "We should furnish our minds with fixed principles." As we do so we will not be driven by the winds of life, but will remain firmly rooted on the rock of the Atonement. I know Jesus is the Christ. That the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is His church. It is led by President Monson, a modern day prophet. The Book of Mormon was translated by another Prophet, Joseph Smith, and testifies of Jesus Christ. It brings those who read it closer to Him and it is true. As we strive to obediently follow the Savior as His disciples, we will find that our lives will be filled with joy and happiness both in this life and in the life to come.

Marie's Testimony

I often find myself thinking about President Monson’s talk entitled “Finding Joy In the Journey” from the October 2008 conference. I love it because it helps me to reflect and remember what is truly most important.
President Monson said, “I believe that among the greatest lessons we are to learn in this short sojourn upon the earth are lessons that help us distinguish between what is important and what is not.” This is not an easy task, but I do know that we receive greater joy in our lives as we learn to prioritize those things that truly are the most important.
There is a story told of an old man on his deathbed. As he reflects on his life, he wishes that he had spent more time with his family and loved ones instead of spending more time at the office.
It is important to work really hard at what we choose to do for a living. It is also important that I work as hard as I can to be a good homemaker. I have found myself many times overly worried or stressed about a clean home, dishes done, an amazing dinner ready right on time, and many other things of that nature. These things are important, but are not always the most important. It is always good for me to step back and remember that it is the relationships with my family, friends, neighbors, etc. that are the most important.
“If you have children who are grown and gone, in all likelihood you have occasionally felt pangs of loss and the recognition that you didn’t appreciate that time of life as much as you should have. Of course, there is no going back, but only forward. Rather than dwelling on the past, we should make the most of today, of the here and now, doing all we can to provide pleasant memories for the future.
If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will—to your surprise—miss them profoundly” (President Monson).
This really struck me when I first heard this because I had thought about these things many times before but amid the chaos that comes with raising two small boys I forget this simple thing that right now is the only time I have been given to truly enjoy being a mother and this time will pass quickly, just as my childhood and young adult years did.
There are many times that I have looked back on my childhood or young single adult years and reminisced about the good times. I am glad that I did choose to enjoy much of those times in my life. I hope that I can continue to do so now. Although, there were times when I couldn’t wait to graduate from high school and college, receive an actual paycheck, couldn’t wait to be married or to have children. All of these things were important things to prepare for but my happiness was never contingent upon “when this happens then I will be happy.” Happiness is making the best of what is going on right now. I am learning that the phases of life pass by quickly and I know that if I try to enjoy the moment, life will be so much more meaningful and fulfilling. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a prophet and I know that his counsel is from our loving Heavenly Father. I know that if we actively chose to live now to the fullest and focus on the things that are most important that we will pass from this life to the next with peace and a sure knowledge that we have done as the Lord would have us do. I know that the scriptures are true and through them the Lord will reveal that which we need to know to find joy in our journey.

Moms Testimony

When I was a sophomore in high school, I had a wonderful seminary teacher named Brother Lant. The course of study that year was the Book of Mormon. There was a "Chapter a Day" program in seminary that year, and I read a chapter each night all year long, no matter how late it was when I went to bed. I gained a testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon that year, and it continues to grow.

When I got to the book of 3 Nephi, and I knew that this was the book where Jesus Christ would finally appear to the Nephites, I felt excited to read about it. I particularly remember reading the account of Samuel the Lamanite and his prophecies. I worried about the wickedness of the people, and what might happen to the believers, and to their sweet and innocent children. And then I read this remarkable phrase, "At the going down of the sun, there was no darkness." I considered how it might feel to be a young Nephite shepherd, and to realize on the way home that it wasn't getting dark, and to rejoice that the promise of the Lord had been fulfilled, and that his family and friends would be safe, after all.

About the same time I had this wonderful experience with reading the Book of Mormon, I also had a dream that changed my life -- a nightmare, if you will, where I dreamed of living in a very dangerous place -- one where you could not venture out your door alone--ever. I awoke from that dream with a voice in my mind which said, "Eventually, the only safe place in the whole world will be in your family, and in the church."

Jesus Christ's birth brought literal light to the world in the days of the Book of Mormon, and his life and atoning sacrifice bring light to the world now. As society becomes more wicked, we will live in increasingly "dark" times, just as the Nephites did. We will have to hold on tightly to each other, and to the truths of the gospel. And, we will have to remember our responsibility to share that truth with others, and to serve them, because their alternative is to remain in darkness.

I am extremely thankful for our family, who take this responsibility seriously: For Dad, who works so hard without complaining, and who is a source of great strength and steadiness in our family; for Johnny and Marie, who have shared the gospel with several people in Iowa; for Gary, who is always willing and available to help members of his family, his friends, and the kids at Wasatch; to Nathan, who is unfailingly generous with his resources and time; to Rebecca, who is a source of light to everybody; and to Scotty, who has prepared himself to serve the Lord full time in Georgia. You are all doing so many great things, and I am proud of you!

I know that there is nothing more important and essential than learning to live the gospel. I know that God the Father and Jesus Christ are intensely interested in us, and hope for our safe return to them. I hope that at that time, that we will have no empty chairs in Heaven. I pray for continued peace and strength for each member of our family, and dream of the day when we will all sit down in the Celestial Kingdom together.

I have been thinking about Scott’s mission papers being submitted this past week. This of course means that his mission call will be coming next week. Thinking about Scott’s mission papers caused me to think back 35 years to the time when I was waiting for my call. I turned my papers in and then headed out on a 13 day choir tour with the University of Utah’s Institute Choir. We toured the western United States singing for our keep. We sang in wards and stake building each night to packed audiences. After singing we would stay with the member’s families. The members would bring their non-member friends to hear the concerts.

Part of our performance each night included a Reader’s Theatre. This was a combination of music and the spoken word. Our theme was the life of the Prophet Joseph Smith. I was asked by the choir director to play the part of Joseph Smith. The words of the Prophet provided the transition between each of the songs.

I can remember several things about that time in my life. Of course I remember the relationships formed with the students in the choir. Most of the men were returned missionaries. I was one of the few male members of the choir that had not already served a mission. I remember playing the part of Joseph Smith. In fact, I still remember some of the lines I read. Mostly I recall having a thirst to read the Book of Mormon. I had an overwhelming desire to read. I read on the bus as we traveled from city to city. I read at night after returning home to stay with the ward members. I knew that very soon I would be asking others to read the Book of Mormon and I wanted to know for myself of its truthfulness.

Of course I had a testimony of the Church. After all I had been in the Church my entire life. I had been in seminary and attended Mutual and was a Priest. I had just finished taking the first year of the Book of Mormon class at the Institute. Even though I had a life full of Church memories I still felt I didn’t know for myself as strongly as I wanted to know. I was reading the Book of Mormon with a sincere desire to know it as the truth.

I can remember very distinctly when I was blessed to know of the Book’s truthfulness. While no one experience represents a complete testimony, I do have one or two in my life that stand out. I had one of those experiences with the Institute Choir on Tour. I was reading 3 Nephi chapter 17 –to me the chapter speaks for itself. I cannot fully comprehend what it must have felt like to kneel at the Savior’s feet while he blessed the sick and the children; prayed to the father; and showed his own compassion for mankind. I remember that a tear rolled down my cheek as I read these chapters. I was in a room full of Institute members at the time. Even though the room was full it seemed to me as if time stood still. The testimony I had prayed for and yearned for and even hoped was already within me was felt in a very pure way. I would not have to go on my mission without a testimony. I was very thankful for this great blessing.

I think the chapter speaks for itself. I also thought I would share it with you and hope you feel the same spirit I did 35 years ago.

1 Behold, now it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words he looked round about again on the multitude, and he said unto them: Behold, my time is at hand.

2 I perceive that ye are weak, that ye cannot understand all my words which I am commanded of the Father to speak unto you at this time.

3 Therefore, go ye unto your homes, and ponder upon the things which I have said, and ask of the Father, in my name, that ye may understand, and prepare your minds for the morrow, and I come unto you again.

…

5 And it came to pass that when Jesus had thus spoken, he cast his eyes round about again on the multitude, and beheld they were in tears, and did look steadfastly upon him as if they would ask him to tarry a little longer with them.

6 And he said unto them: Behold, my bowels are filled with compassion towards you.

7 Have ye any that are sick among you? Bring them hither. Have ye any that are lame, or blind, or halt, or maimed, or leprous, or that are withered, or that are deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them hither and I will heal them, for I have compassion upon you; my bowels are filled with mercy.

8 For I perceive that ye desire that I should show unto you what I have done unto your brethren at Jerusalem, for I see that your faith is sufficient that I should heal you.

9 And it came to pass that when he had thus spoken, all the multitude, with one accord, did go forth with their sick and their afflicted, and their lame, and with their blind, and with their dumb, and with all them that were afflicted in any manner; and he did heal them every one as they were brought forth unto him.

10 And they did all, both they who had been healed and they who were whole, bow down at his feet, and did worship him; and as many as could come for the multitude did kiss his feet, insomuch that they did bathe his feet with their tears.

11 And it came to pass that he commanded that their little children should be brought.

12 So they brought their little children and set them down upon the ground round about him, and Jesus stood in the midst; and the multitude gave way till they had all been brought unto him.

16 And after this manner do they bear record: The eye hath never seen, neither hath the ear heard, before, so great and marvelous things as we saw and heard Jesus speak unto the Father;

17 And no tongue can speak, neither can there be written by any man, neither can the hearts of men conceive so great and marvelous things as we both saw and heard Jesus speak; and no one can conceive of the joy which filled our souls at the time we heard him pray for us unto the Father.

18 And it came to pass that when Jesus had made an end of praying unto the Father, he arose; but so great was the joy of the multitude that they were overcome.

19 And it came to pass that Jesus spake unto them, and bade them arise.

20 And they arose from the earth, and he said unto them: Blessed are ye because of your faith. And now behold, my joy is full.

21 And when he had said these words, he wept, and the multitude bare record of it, and he took their little children, one by one, and blessed them, and prayed unto the Father for them.

22 And when he had done this he wept again;

23 And he spake unto the multitude, and said unto them: Behold your little ones.

24 And as they looked to behold they cast their eyes towards heaven, and they saw the heavens open, and they saw angels descending out of heaven as it were in the midst of fire; and they came down and encircled those little ones about, and they were encircled about with fire; and the angels did minister unto them.

25 And the multitude did see and hear and bear record; and they know that their record is true for they all of them did see and hear, every man for himself; and they were in number about two thousand and five hundred souls; and they did consist of men, women, and children.

2 Adjustments

Hello all :)!!!

After talking to a few people we are making a few minor adjustments

1st: Calling a family member. This can be an extended family member. So grandmas, aunts, brother-in-laws, cousins, etc.

2nd: No Sweets. Each week you are allowed to have a "sweet day" and still get the point "no sweet point." This is to reward you for all the good work you are doing :)

Some points have been changed. When watching General Conference, you only get 10 points. When bearing your testimony you only get 20 points.

Also remember to just use your best judgement. If you think lucky charms does not count as a sweet then do not count it. If you think you called someone and talked to them for long enough and it was sincere than count it. You are your own judge.

In bed for 7 hours
Getting up to get a drink, feed crying babies, or going to the bathroom does not count against you. Just make sure you are in your bed for 7 hours.

Exercising
On Sunday if you go to all three hours of church you get a point in place of exercising.

Journal Writing
This can be as simple as writing/typing how you saw the Lords hand in your life that day.

Fruits and Veggies
There has to be 3 different types. There has to be a least one fruit and one veggie.

Skipping Meals
You have to have Breakfast (6am-10am), Lunch (10am-3pm) and Dinner (5pm-10pm)

Temple/Indexing
Only Johnny and Marie are allowed to index. You must do it for minimum of 1 hour.

Phone Call to Family Member
You can get a point per day with this one. But you have to make it a sincere conversation. If the person you are trying to call does not answer it does not count. But don't not answer so that person doesn't get a point. Make the call about the person; see how are they, see what they are doing. We are all friends, let’s just become closer. Use your best judgment.

Bonus
Once a week you will have an opportunity to get 5 extra points. You get this by 1: Doing all of your "daily points" and 2: Going to the "temple/indexing." This can only be given once a week. We are doing it this way to encourage temple attendance. So... make sure the day you chose to go to the temple you also do all of your daily points.

Ensign
You can get 10 extra points if you read the current month’s ensign in the current month. March does not count.

Conference
If you watch all the sessions (boys that includes priesthood) you get 10 extra points. If you have work or emergencies you have a week to either read/watch what you missed. If you fall asleep you must go back and read/watch missed parts.

Testimony
Each week one person will have an opportunity to share their testimony with the family. Pick one of your favorite talks or scripture passages and tell us what you learned, your thoughts and bear your testimony. We will post this on the blog for everyone to read and comment on.
If you do this you will receive 20 points and we will add those points to your total score on June 1st. You will get a personal email on your week describing the details. We will be going oldest to youngest.
